New York October half term with teenage dd

I am toying with the idea if taking dd 17 to NY in October half term for 3 nights.
I went about 10 years ago, and stayed at the Edison in Times Square, but would prefer somewhere smaller and more "hip".
We are going for shows and shopping.....not too fussed about all the tourist sites as have done them and dd not that interested.

Any recommendations for hotels?

What's the budget? The Crosby looks amazing, but is £££. We've stayed at the Eventi which may be too big, but was quite cool.
