Really cheap weekend ideas needed

DH & I are wondering about trying to have a weekend to ourselves before DS2 arrives in June. We have two location options based on potential childcare for DS1 - it needs to be within easy driving distance of Cardiff/Bridgend or West Sussex & as cheap as possible without resorting to the hassle of camping. We're looking for more of a crashing in front of the TV/maybe a nice walk if we're feeling energetic type break, rather than necessarily trying to find somewhere cultural!

Any ideas?

Barry Island is nice stay in a Travel lodge.
Look at some of the offers they have and try going to a city you wouldnt normally visit.
Having travelled all over the place I still think Liverpool is a fantsatic city.
Look at Groupon and living social deals but do study the small print.
Oh what about a country pub with rooms?
