Can you recommend a mobile home site in France

We have never driven down to France and camped or stayed in a mobile home. We thought we would give it a try this year but the choice is absolutely bewildering. We would like somewhere on the coast, within an easy days drive of Caen. Some where quiet rather than a huge site with lots of entertainment, where we can walk or cycle to the beach, but with stuff to do if the weather is poor within driving distance. We are hoping to go for 2 weeks at the beginning of July, children are 9 and 11. Help - I am going mad doing shortlists on all the sites but no closer to a decision !

Le Bois Dormant in the Vendee. It's a Siblu owned site and great with loads to do locally. About 5 hours drive from Caen.

Thanks for the replies. Any ideas what the weather will be like in early July in the Vendee, are we better off going a lot further south for guaranteed sun ?

if you google you will get average weather stats. normally its suppossed to be good, but i think they've had a couple of dodgy summers. it was ok when we went to north vendee during the day, evenings were cold. north vendee is a bit soul-less.

great that is just the sort of advice I'm after ' North Vendee is a bit souless' The websites don't tell you this stuff !

I'd say the weather is usually about 4-5 degrees warmer than the UK at that sort of time. South of Nantes it seems to warm up a bit.

It depends what you are in to. There are some great places in the Vendee and not at all soulless. Lots of cycling through forests to pretty restaurants and picnic spots.

what i mean by soull-less is that the countryside in north vendee wasn't as pretty as brittany. you don't get the really ancient old towns and villages that you get in brittany either.....from memory it seemed to be bungalows. beaches are long stretches of sand.....rather than sandy covers (like cornwall/brittany).

people say its got more character further south, but that was too far for us to drive. don't travel on a sat in july/aug as traffic is heavy

Hi, I live in Nantes and we drive through the Vendee a lot to stay at the IL's bungalow near the coast. I don't think you would like their particular site, as you would need to drive to the beach (10 minutes) and it's not super quiet (new owners have brought in lots of activity stuff) but I can vouch for the general area, which is around Sable d'Olonne. There are loads of campsites around there so that might give you a start. I don't know how long a drive it is from Caen though.

I really like the Vendee, it's very chilled out. I don't think the north is soulless, it's just very rural, pretty countryside. Last summer was not super warm but the summer before was blazing, usually it is quite warm.

I'm not sure how much there would be to do if it rains? You could also think about staying somewhere up here near the Loire (La Baule, Pornichet, St Brevin) as then at least you could go into Nantes or do some river stuff if the weather is not great. But, there is a greater chance of the weather not being great up here! So I would probably still go to the Vendee.

Thank you everyone. I have a shortlist of 9 running down the coast from St Nazaire to Bordeaux! Looking on Brittany Ferries site, they have 25% off all holidays and 7% cashback so coming out much cheaper there than the other sites. Liking the look of on on Il de Re, Les llates. A good way to spend a day when everything has been cancelled by snow!

This campside Les Druides in Carnac, Brittany is just lovely and the cleanest i have ever stayed at! We extended our stay here and our neighbours mobile home (we were camping) was excellent

Beach less than 0.5km away and campsite has a lovely pool. Good dinosaur park here. The nearest city is Vannes and is great, especially on market day. Day trip to Quiberon lovely too.

Work - The Ile de Re is VERY touristy but good for cycling

carnac is lovely. we've been there about 4 times. men du beach is lovely

Is ile de Re french chic touristy or blackpool touristy ? Also looking at Carnac, shortlist getting longer...

Ile de re is flat, sandy with wire grass, a road all the way round and criss crossed with cycle paths. Campsites all round the edge so very close to the beach. If it is very busy (we were there around a bank holiday) the traffic can be hideous so takes a long time to get back onto the mainland to go anywhere 'else'

Not Blackpool touristy, but not really French chic either. It is really just an island with beaches and cycle tracks and not much else

Agree with dreamingofsun, es deux fontaines is fab!

Camping des Iles, Penestan, south Brittany. On the beach, oysters & mussels, water slides into pool, great for kids, medium size campsite and mostly European campers. Five hour drive, with an hour lunch stop, from Caen.
