Is Paphos, Cyprus really, really bad for a family holiday ?

Is it full of spewing teenagers and discarded condoms ?

Or ok for a family holiday with a couple of teenagers ? Be honest please, nothing is booked...

I think Paphos is lovely, great restaurants, good sites, and Cyprus is great to explore if you have a hire car.

In the evening there are quite a lot of bars with those annoying promoters outside, but I don't think it attracts the 18 to 30s like resorts like Malia etc do.

But dont confuse it with Ayia Napa, but if i remember rightly beaches were not that great.

It is lovely but really really (really) hot at certain times of the year . The beaches are beautiful but beware of strong tides

Paphos as I remember it was geared towards families and older people. Wasn't particularly struck on it myself as the beaches are scrubby but the old town is quite nice. I much prefer north west Cyprus, around the Akamas peninsula which is lovely and inland the Troodos mountains are gorgeous and well worth exploring.

In the north west we stayed up in Latchi at the Elia Latchi Village. I think the hotel has gone downhill a bit unfortunately but we had a good time there. Other than that there is one very expensive hotel, sister hotel to the Annabelle and apart from that I think it's all self catering villas.

The other resort near Paphos is Coral Bay which is also only 45 minutes drive from Latchi. That has a lovely beach although not sure how much there is for teenagers there.

Paphos itself a bit grim but some very nice hotels bizarrely

Struggling a bit with booking 2013 summer holiday. Was getting a bit desperate and found some nice accomodation in Paphos, but going to give it a miss.

Totally agree with Loops, paphos itself not my cup of tea at all, but some love it. We hired a car and tbh that made the holiday - lots of driving around up into the mountains, the Troodos mountains are lovely.

To be honest I found troodos mountains over rated, fine for one day out but he you want mountains better off in UK.

Any, what are you looking for specifically, does it have be be Cyprus how about Greece or Turkey?

Looking for a one bed apartment, all inclusive.

Don't fancy Turkey, as taking teenage daughter. Have had bad experiences with that.

We usually do Spain, Balearics or Canaries, pretty low brow tbh as money tight but am pretty good at finding something decent on a lowish budget. Struggling this year (and prices have rocketed..)

We are looking on holiday lettings this year. Have found a great appartment in Croatia for £350 the week. It's self catering but has private pool/ jacuzzi/ private sea access/ beach, and great terrace and BBQ area. Just cheap flights on top andnorob a hire car to go exploring.

Holiday lettings has lots of places to privately rent and is a lot cheaper that way. We have used the site twice before now and it's been great. Once a 6 bed villa in Spain, the other a two bed apartment within a 5 star hotel complex in Italy including a housekeeper/ cook. You can filter searches by dates/ price/ activities etc etc.

We went there about 10 years ago, and it was fine.
We also hired a car, and it was a delight. Once you got out of Paphos we took 3 attempts to get out, there was not much traffic at all.

Yes people from around here are going to Croatia and Slovenia. They all seem to come back pleased with it. It is very clean. And the local people are eager to build up their tourism, and give a good service.

We tend to do the apartment AI as it suits my teenagers. I had one bad experience in Tenerife but we had a good cheap and cheerful and not too chavvy holiday in Playa Blanca Lanzarote last year.

I would go to Croatia or the like if we had small children or it was just the two of us, but not with teenagers.

Yes we have been doing all inclusive too. But it seems you barely get anything now for a fair amount of money.vwenhave always been lucky enough to go 5 star all inclusive etc, butbthenlast couple of times the food still hasn't been great, rooms ok but smallish, too built up blah blah.. Yup we must be fussy

We have generally done one all inclusive , and one self catering a year, but main summer hols will be self catered this year to get better for our money (IMO). We don't have teens though, just two toddlers.

FG, sounds lovely but we need the slightly chavvy entertainment and esp sports to keep the teenagers occupied and to keep the teenage daughter from wanting to go off clubbing with newfound mates

AI comes into it's own when you have teenage boys who eat constantly. I wouldn't bother otherwise.
Last year we had one week AI in Canaries in April and one s/c in Balearics in August. The total cost was £1k more for the self catering. Mind you by S/C I mean eating out at restaurants not actual self catering.
Plus the teenagers tend to find socialising easier in a big AI complex. They can safely wander about and hang out with others their own age. On the S/C complex everyone went out in the evenings. I preferred it because we got more of their company .

Fab weather, lovely Cypriot people, food so-so but did I mention the weather?

We stay in Coral Bay. Paphos is fine, you can avoid the rowdier bits easily, head for Bar Street if you really need to get down with the kids.

I have just come back from Egypt with a 17year old dd - it was fine, she didn't get hassled tbh, and felt perfectly safe (mind you, we were in a big hotel and didn't actually venture out except to go to Luxor or snorkelling).

It was pretty cheap for a 5 star AI - I have looked for July and it is a lot cheaper in comparison with Spain etc (probably because it is a million degrees).

Anyway, it's a good idea for a lazy sunny holiday. The snorkelling is brilliant. Hardly costs anything for a whole day at sea in a boat. And the hotel where we stayed had a jetty so you could snorkel on the beach next to the hotel as well.

Don't fancy Egypt. Have visions of being virtually imprisoned in a concrete hell. And too hot.

No, it was lovely, we only didn't venture out much because we were only there for a week and too lazy. The weather was 28 degrees in December though, god knows what happens in summer.

I would love to go to Greece again, haven't been since dd was born.

Anybody know Protaras, Cyprus ?
