Algarve at Easter Any good?

Looking at going to the Algarve for Easter. Half board preferably, near beach not too and wasbuilt up. Me and DH and two kids 3 and 8. Has anyone been at that time of year

not too built up, sorry! hear good and bad reports about Albafuera

Hi- we go to the Algarve a lot as we have a holiday home there. The weather can be a bit mixed at Easter time but usually much warmer than here. If you want somewhere not too built up head towards the western Algarve as there are some lovely smaller resorts. Lagos is a nice town and further West there are other small resorts such as Praia da Luz ,Burgau and Salema which have a good range of restaurants and lovely beaches. Avoid the larger towns like Portimao and Albefeira- not nice places.

We went at Easter and had 2 lovely days and then the rest of the week was non stop rain. The following year we went in may half term and it was heaven - perfect temperature, not a cloud in the sky. I personally wouldn't go again at Easter, but having said that it is hit and miss.

Yeah last Easter wasn't great but the year before out of two weeks we only had 2 off days and the rest of the time it was beach weather. The May half term is better- we were there last year too and it was 23 degrees- those few weeks between Easter and Spring bank holiday make a big difference.

The other thing to consider next year is that Easter is quite early.

We went two years ago for five days and stayed at a campsite near Faro/Albufeira way. We had amazing weather which we were told was lucky and to be honest DD and I did very little. We mainly stayed around the swimming pool or walked to the beach a couple of times.

It was more a bit of early sunshine and relaxation holiday than an enriching cultural experience but it was what we needed. Pleasantly cheap but we were self-catering.

We went last Easter and it was really quite cold! Cold in our apartment too and obviously pool unusable.
Stayed near Lagos, nice area and there are quite a few activities to do but won't go back at that time of year. We ate well and cheaply too.
