UK passport valid for at least 6 months for USA?

does anyone know where I can find on the web written confirmation that the 6 month rule doesnt apply anymore? We are off to Florida in May. We all have individual machine readable passports which expire 10 weeks after our return date.

I phoned the US Embassy hepline (at £1.30 per minute!!) and the lady quite briskly assured me that that was fine, so long as passport was valid past the return ticket date. Apparently you dont need minimum six months unexpired period on your passport anymore. I cant find anything on Embassy website about this.

Call me a nervous nelly but I have this horror of turning up at Orlando airport and being turned away, saying "but a lady called Margaret told me it was okay!"

Have a look at the above website - they state 90 days from return date to the US.

If your passport is not in order the check in staff at the UK airport in question won't let you on the aircraft let alone get you to the US.

Where are you flying to in FL?. If its Orlando be prepared for a long walk.

this bit -

'UK Passports

You are advised to check the remaining validity of your passport as soon as you plan to travel overseas. The US and the UK have an agreement that allows people travelling from one country to the other to enter using a passport with limited validity. However, you are strongly advised to renew your passport beforehand if it has six months remaining validity or less. This is in case your departure from the US is delayed for any reason; if you wish to make side visits to other countries; or if you have further travel plans immediately after your visit to the US.'

Looks like you are ok!

I'd get the passports renewed asap to be fully on the safe side.

dp did his via post office check and send and got it back within 3 working days - this was 2 weeks ago.
