Amsterdam - restaurant recommendations

just booked late deal to amsterdam for dh's 40th, so am after 2 nice restaurants. we're staying near waterloopien (flower market) if that helps. been several times before but stayed at other side of city and never been too successful with restaurants.

Used to live there but am having memory blank about a lot of the names, also we ate mostly out of the centre. However, I do remember taking my dh to a restaurant called De Compagnon on the edge of the red light district for his 40th and it was wonderful. There is a very good site called specialbite.com (with an English version) which we used a lot to choose places. You can search by cuisine or by area of Amsterdam. Have a nice time!
