Hi there

Not sure if this should be posted in health or not, but wondered if anybody could recommend a good insect repellent for our 20 month old? Going to Egypt and apparently the mozzies there are pretty hungry :)

Not sure how this would work with younger kids but we take garlic capsules a couple of weeks before we go. Best suncream we found was boots own with insect repellent this worked really well. also get a mozzy net for night time - camping shops have them on sale at the mo. when are you going (bearing in mind other posts re the searing summer heat in egypt) also told when we visited south america to avoid eating sugary foods as this attracts them but could be an old (south american) wives tale.

When DD was little you could get Repellant Wipes from Boots - they don't seem to do wipes anymore, but still do the repellant here

The only natural one actually proven to work anything like as well as DEET is lemon eucalyptus. Lots of brands do a lemon eucalyptus repellent - MosiGuard, Boots own brand, etc. Otherwise buy a 'family' DEET, which will have maybe 7 - 10% DEET. A net is very good idea - get a treated one if possible.

I started using Mosiguard when I was pregnant and we went on hols. It is now our standard repellent of choice and we us it on DD (5) and DS (1). We went to turkey when DS was 10 months and we used citronella sticl on patches for DS(they stick on his clothes not his body) and they worked very well (by greenbaby).
