what kind of thing are you looking for?
Harewood is quite good but a bit pricey! Has aplayground and bird garden and a lovelywalk around the lake.

how about tropical world, on the Harrogate side of Leeds? I think it's only £2 or £3 a person, plus it's indoors if the weather is poo.

mrsvern · 03/04/2006 20:47

Tropical world is £3 adult and under 8s go free. My DS loved it and it was nice and warm on a very yukky day!

FastasleepInABunnySuit · 03/04/2006 21:14

Tropicla world sounds about right Grin anything cheap really as we're skint! DS likes museums and all that kind of thing, and adventure playgrounds etc :)

the National Railway museum in York is free.

mrsvern · 04/04/2006 11:55

Tropical World is just across the road from round hey park where I am sure there is a playground too. If not there sure is alot of space to run around and burn off energy

Bozza · 04/04/2006 12:05

Yes Tropical World will be a good bet for you. We went on Saturday and althugh it's not that great with Round Hey Park being just opposite there is loads in there as well. There is also a place called Lotherton Hall which has a bird garden that is quite good. Entrance to the garden is free although I think you have to pay to park.

Hi there! I live in Harrogate, not much going in the way of freebies but here are some ideas:

Valley Gardens - nice walks, crazy golf, paddling pool (depending on when you come), feed the ducks and it's free

Fewston resevoir - in the Yorkshirte Dales, loads of fresh air, fab views and walks, feed ducks and Canadian Geese

There's a few farms near by that are worth a visit, Ripley is a nice village for a day out and there's a big castle and a lovely ice cream shop

Knaresbourough is also a nice market down, boat trips along the river and Mother Shipton's Cave is worth a visit.

National Railway museum is a good day out and free as someone has mentioned as is The Royal Armouries in Leeds.

Harewood house is good for a dry day as they have a huge play fort but it is quite pricey - but they have a bird garden and penguins too. Fountains Abbey is another good choice but again it's National Trust so not cheap.

HTH.

Auntymandy · 04/04/2006 13:49

are the penguins back at Harewood?

FastasleepInABunnySuit · 04/04/2006 19:46

Thanks northener wow what a list (I went to school in Knaresborough... and you think here is a vipers pit, ha!)

Thanks everyone :)
