Mumsnetters have sorted me out for Manchester, but I am looking at going away with some friends and was thinking of Leeds, good shops, countryside close by, easy for us all to get to.

Anyway have favourite restaurants, hotels, places to go?

I like the look of the Yorkshire Scuplture Park.

Many thanks.

If oney is no option, Malmaison. Good Hotel great food.

Greek Street is great for restaurants and gets you in the heart of some good night life.

Yorkshire sculpture park is further south though.

Yorkshire sculpture park is fab but a bit out of the way...lovely days out can be had in Sunny Ilkley!

bluesky · 03/04/2006 18:50

What, the sculpture park?

Well it's more Barnsley tbh. You'd need to go down the M1 to jct 37 and it's right off the motorway.

may not have car, as we may get cheap flights to Leeds. How far journey wise? Worth a taxi, or could we bus it? Thanks Nbg

Eeek no car!
Hmmmm
You could taxi it but I think you'd be looking at £25 ish.
Having said that I know there is a bus that goes from Leeds to the parkand I think it's the X18.

What day will you most likely be going and I can check some times for you?

Nbg · 03/04/2006 19:12

Theres always York too.

The Royal Armouries are good \link{http://www.royalarmouries.org/extsite/view.jsp?sectionId=54\here}

Nbg · 03/04/2006 19:16

Have to go now but if you give me a day when you fancy the sculpture park I can find out some times.

Will be back on tomorrow.

bluesky · 03/04/2006 19:18

Thanks, it will either be a Friday afternoon or a Saturday. Is it on the same side of Leeds as the airport.

Thanks Whizzz, I saw the armouries, dont think its girly enough.

Its not in Leeds and quite a distance from leeds!

Auntymandy · 03/04/2006 19:24

by train Wakefield Westgate is the nearest main line station. London King's Cross to Wakefield – around 2 hours.

by bus West Yorkshire - call 0113 245 7676 South Yorkshire - call 01709 515151

Nbg · 03/04/2006 19:25

No the airport is more towards Bradford.

Ok the best I can find is getting the X30 bus from a place called Calls Lane in Leeds (although you can get it from the bus station) and that will take you into Barnsley. You then need to get the 444 which will take you to the park.

But there is a direct bus. I know it!!!
