Am going to Genoa and Pisa with my 4 year old daughter for 4 nights in Feb - just the 2 of us. No particular reason for going except that the flights were cheap and I want a trip away. Now, it's getting nearer I'm wondering if it was such a good idea. Anyway, has anyone been to either of these places or can recommend places nearby? Lucca, perhaps? Fortunately, my daughter likes to potter about aimlessly like me, and, again like her mother, likes sitting in bars and watching the world go by. But any info about the places or single parent trips in hotels (cheap, very cheap)would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks

Tinker - try The Sun newspaper holidays if you want cheap but good - £9.50 per person (based on minimum of 4), £15 per person in summer. The offer starts on 5th January, you have to collect tokens. We have been on quite a few and enjoyed them all - see discussion about summer holidays. They have breaks available in Britain, France, Spain, Italy and Ireland.

Tinker - sorry, I hadn't realised that was you! I usually just read the comments and not the names, I only read the names when I'm responding.

Anyway, we don't have to buy as many papers as those who haven't been on sun offers before as we have been sent a priority booking form. Only 4 vouchers required for us. If it's any consolation, we usually cut the tokens out and throw the rest of the paper away.

Hope you enjoy Italy, I keep saying to dh that we should go somewhere like that, or Austria for a summer holiday instead of Spain. He's interested, but not enough to make him want to go. Looks like it'll be just me and the kids.

Ailsa - forgiven. I have a friend who was raving about them as well but, oh God, I couldn't, no, no, no!!!!!!!! I'll have to ask around the office!
