How do you sleep in a hotel room with a 2yo?

Need an overnight stay somewhere halfway up the M1??
What do you do to get them to sleep if you are all in one room? Surely they will want to stay up if your are there watching TV?
Do you just keep them up a little later and then all go to bed at 9ish??
Did think of Center Parcs - but we need it for a Thurs night and they only do a Mon or Fri start.

Put dd to sleep in her buggy - it can be adjusted to lie flat. Then wheeled her into darkened bathroom, us in the room. When we were ready for bed, transferred her to the bed (she would not sleep in a cot) and carried on from there. Otherwise, early night for us!

if at all possible get them sleeping out of your sight. or rather make sure they can't see you. they have to be bored silly to go to sleep. i.e. read a book out of their view til they are asleep and then put the TV on.

We were lucky in that dd would sleep through anything - so we just did the bath/story routine as normal, bunged her in her travel cot and proceeded to watch TV with wine etc. She would merrily leap around the cot for a bit but eventually fall asleep. We've stayed in all manner of hotel rooms and have also done the cot in the bathroom thing - anything to get it as far away as possible really!

1st time - we ate dinner, very quietly, off the side of the bath, while DS1 enjoyed peace and quiet in MASSIVE hotel room.

2nd time - wheeled DS's cot into corridor outside door (could still see him) so we could watch tv....
