Japan? Or the Netherlands?

DD1 is going to uni in the Netherlands (specifically Holland). Because she's studying anthropology, she's going on an exchange trip to a Japanese uni (Meji Gakuin) for the summer term, doing an Intense Japanse Course and also doing Japanese Cultural and Social Studies. She'll be staying for an extra month, to do another Japanse course, and will then fly back to the Netherlands for two weeks, and then she's volunteering for Save the Children. We have two choices to see her: Fly out to Japan or go to the Netherlands. The Netherlands are obviously cheaper and easier- and we speak Dutch, a big bonus- but Japan would be such a great experience, even though we don't speak the language. WWYD?

The Netherlands would be wonderful and I'm sure you'd have a great time. But on the other hand, you can go there easily any time and are likely to go at some point anyway, whether your daughter is there or not.
Japan on the other hand, is somewhere you are unlikely to go without a specific reason. Tokyo is a very interesting and international city. It isn't so hard to travel around without Japanese language knowledge. You should give it a try!!

Japan is wonderful- if you afford it, go there!

Japan definitely! You can go towards the end of her visit and she can show you all her favourite places. It will also mean she has someone to share her experience with and you will talk about it for years!!!

Would go to Japan.

Would state that it can be very hot and humid in summertime. We got on fine in Japan even though none of us speak the language. We found it a fabulous country to visit. Would go back there in a heartbeat.
