About to book two weeks in Cephalonia - at self catering apartments with a pool near Fiscardo. We have a three year old and a baby who'll be three months in June when we're going. Bit worried that Fiscardo and area around it isn't very child-friendly - ie no sandy beaches, lots of hairpin bends, but like the idea of stunning scenery and pretty harbour. Have you been, and if so, what do you think?

hmm, we went for our honeymoon and it is really pretty, but I don't really remember it as being a child friendly place.

This was a while back though so things may have changed.

We've been to Caphalonia about 4 times - once to Lassi, 3 times to Scala. We stopped in Fiscardo a couple of times on day trips. It is really beautiful around there but there isn't too much to it, so if you don't hire a car (don't know if you're planning to) you might find yourself a bit stuck. Also found Fiscardo more expensive than the rest of the island - probably because lots of day trips drop you off there for lunch and shopping - and don't remember seeing things like a mini mart or bakery (things you want/need if you are self catering). It could be worth checking on the web for more information about Fiscardo. If it is still functioning as a village, there will probably be grocery/bakery shops and a children's playground somewhere near the town square.

Most of the beaches in Kephalonia shelve off very steeply so wouldn't be suitable for any kind of child (and Myrtos beach has rip tides apparently) so don't let that put you off.

Greeks are so laid back about kids - and the outdoor layout of the restaurants does usually make it possible for a pre-schooler to let off some steam.

I'd say go for it! Smile

Thanks Softymum that's really useful, although have gone off the idea of Fiscardo now! Would you recommend Scala or Lassi - or antwhere else? And are all the beaches dodgy for kids?
