Through a fortunate turn of events, me and my big sis might just escape on a holiday together next year - just the two of us. We never get to have more than a phone convo normally so it's a great oppotunity.... But I'm stuck.

I'm on the wavelength of where we go that's good for us to take the kids and family friendly countries and resorts etc..., but just two adult women looking for a nice resort, sandy beach, hot sun, pile of books and some drinkies? - I'm totally clueless.

We're both fairly skint but I don't want us to end up inadvertently in Ibiza or equivalent surrounded by vomiting 18 year olds from dagenham, just because we've opted for the cheapest deal.

I was thinking of Greek Islands as have been to Ios and Andros years back and love Greece - but am a bit blinded by choice.

Where might be a good place to get away from it all? I really would appreciate any help xxx

I went to Zante with friends for a similar holiday. It was beautiful, and although it has a "party" reputation that's only one town (Laganas). We stayed in Alykanas. Lovely beaches, quiet nightlife but enough bars so you can go out if you want, hot hot hot...I read about ten books! It was wonderful.

That sounds great - I'll have a look, thanks x

Try Rhodes. I highly recommend the south of Rhodes. Lindos and pefkos. We frequently get single and pairs of women and they love it. They feel safe going around and don't feel out of sorts being just 2 women.

If you want to go back to Greece I would recommend Lindos too, it is really beautiful with lots of traditional cafes/restaurants/bars - but nothing too rowdy. Greece is pretty cheap at the moment too!

Have a look at Bitez, near Bodrum in Turkey, that is where me and my friend used to go before I married. It is a nice resort, the beach is good and there are plenty of restaurants and a few bars, it never gets mad there but it is not too quiet either. And Bodrum is great for shpopping Wink

Agree re Turkey but also if you want to go back to Greece and are able to come away from the package idea slightly I've been looking at Expedia flight and hotel deals to Mykonos or Santorini. Really good prices and Aegean scheduled flights are great.

If you don't mind having nothing at all to do I had a lovely week lying on the beach sipping cocktails in Taba in Egypt. There is nothing there, its just a few hotels, a watersports centre and a 'town' consisting of a few stalls and restaurants.

Other than that I would second Olu Deniz.

Very jealous, I'm not going away until June Envy

Taba is on my list too! Also consider St Julians in Malta. Not the best beaches granted but hotels have rooftop pools with stunning views the food is excellent as is the shopping and if you dont stay in one of the spa hotels you can still use the facilities.

I've just had the exact holiday in Turkey. It was wonderful. Massages on the roof for a tenner, cheap drinks, lovely cheap places to eat, no hassle the friendliest people I have ever met. People were crying when they left. We went to Dalyan. It's very laid back. It's on a river. The beach is a cheap boat ride away or 15 minutes and 20 pence on the bus. Worth the journey. We went twice but the pool was fine for us. It's very quiet after 1am, if you don't mind that. Ive already booked to go back. I've heard good things about Olu Deniz too. Avoid Marmaris!

Just hopefully bumping this rather old thread of mine as we're trying to get our arses in gear and actually book something up! I'm working through the suggestions given, especially the Greek Islands, thanks to everyone who made suggestions - are there any more recommendations for nice relaxed grown up hols?
