October Days out near Pickering

Hi, we're spending a week near Pickering, North Yorkshire in October - so I"m anticipating some rain! We are two grown ups, a nearly 2 year old and a 5 month old. Does anyone have any suggestions for possible rainy day activities in this area? Thanks for your help.

Ooooh I live in Pickering.

There is the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. It's really good, the views are beautiful. It's mainly weekends though in Oct except for half term.

There's the Beck Isle museum. It's all about life in Pickering through the ages.

You're not too far away from Scarborough which has a good sealife centre and a museum. Then there is Whitby which has a couple of museums.

Dalby forest is lovely for walks on dry days and York is about an hour away.

Try and have a look in the Church in Pickering. The walls have beautiful paintings.

I hope you have a lovely time.

Flamingo land for a non rainy day, has a zoo bit and good toddler bit.

Railway museum in York is free.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm really looking forward to it.

Just make sure you have a clear day for the North Yorks Moors railway as the moors can be covered in low cloud and you will miss the beautiful scenery.
