3 days in Miami

DP and I are planning on doing a long weekend in MIA next week. Never been, so was after some advise from anyone who has.

Were planning on staying in South Beach. Even though we won't have the kids in tow, we are not looking for party central [insert old gimmer emoticon here] but somewhere with a bit of atmosphere and near bars/restaurants. Am kind of expecting it to be a bit like Vegas on sea, but without the Elvises!

We don't want to spend the entire time on the beach and want to do a bit of sightseeing whilst we are there, so maybe we would be better off in another neighbourhood, but we did love the idea of staying in the art deco district.

Would love to hear from anyone who has been there with any advice!

Thanks in advance!

What about a drive down to the top end of Florida keys and a day trip into the everglades. the lonely planet book on Miami is worth getting for ideas.

We love South Beach. Stayed at the Tides last year which was lovely. Directly on Ocean drive, so fab view. Great places to eat, we also spent a lot of time just walking about. You do kind of need a car though. We ended up in Key West when we only planned to go about half way. Was fun Smile. In fact it's about my 4th Miami trip, love it and can't wait to go back.

Actually first time in MIA we only got a car for one day and went to Sawgrass (huge outlet mall). Parking is quite expensive per day. There are buses around Sobe and of course cabs if you want. But if you want to go to the Everglades, keys, fort lauderdale etc a car is a must.

Also it's much more chilled out than Vegas.
We eat at Grillfish every time we go.

You must do south beach area; the best place for people watching. We love having al fresco lunch there, often at News Cafe.

Parking horrendous but a block or 2 behing ocean dr they have lots where you can park up for $10.

Thanks for the advice!

We are going to book somewhere on/near Ocean Drive I think. May do a day trip down to the Keys, but as we are only there for 3 nights before we fly home, we will see how energetic we feel when we get there next Friday! :-)
