Christmas break without kids-recommendations please!

I'm a single parent and this year my kids will go to their Dads for Xmas. Instead of moping, I thought maybe I could go on a break, but I'm not sure where. I thought maybe a city break, or a nice hotel, really unsure.

If you want to stay in Europe you need to check how much of the city is closed during Christmas. A lot of European Cities close down between Christmas Eve and the 27th December. I am also puzzled when visiting relatives in Germany, too long in this county.
