Week in Dartmouth-what not to miss

Hi
Am going to Dartmouth for a week in mid September to stop with friends down there. During the day we'll mainly be finding our own entertainment as hosts will be working. What things should we visit whilst we are there? We have an almost 3 year old DD. Have heard the woodlands adventure park is good and also would like to visit the model village as went there years ago as a child. Any other recommendations would be gratefully received! TIA.

Woodlands is okay, the ticket you buy admits you for a week and there is a big undercover play barn if the weather is not too good.

Crabbing (SIL always does well at Dittesham)

Salcombe is nearby and is great for shopping and has a little beach.

Riverford Organics down at Buckfastleigh is lovely for lunch.

Riverdart adventures has play areas (but your DD may be a bit young)

Dartmoor for pony spotting and picnics.

There is a lovely silver shop in Dartmouth, gorgeous designs and very reasonable, also a great chippy, tiny little place up in the backstreets.

Pennywell Farm is lovely for young DC (we used to go lots), We went with our DC to the model village last weekend and it was good (if pricey especially as the car park was a council run one not included in the price) but I would say Pennywell more fun with rides etc.

There's a lovely steam train that runs from Buckfastleigh down to Totnes and back (with and animal sanctuary type place at the Buckfasleigh end (I haven't been but friends have).

Think if you buy your Woodlands ticket online you can save £ (Dc are free if under 92 cm iirc).

Paignton seafront now has a fantsatic park (and a flat sandy beach) But can be a bit 'coach holiday'.

Have a lovely time

PS there are LOADS of lovely beaches here, bigbury, Hope cove, salcombe etc at 3 your Dc would probably be happy with that!

I had a thread earlier in the year when I was debating between Dartmouth or somewhere in North Devon. We went to Dartmouth and had a lovely time there. We didn't get to try out all the suggestions on the thread, but there were lots of ideas there.
