As a child we used to do driving hols in France and we never booked, just played it by ear and we always found somewhere to stay/eat, usually very pleasant/interesting.

I was thinking of doing the same with my partner / dd this half term for 3/4 days. We weren't going far - just Pas-de Calais.

Does anyone else do this - just pitch up and play it by ear - your experiences please?

I would book. Half term falls the same week over here.

Hi MrsTruper - I live in Pas-de-Calais and agree with Portofino - prob best to book in advance if you have somewhere specific in mind but there are loads of places to stay here so you aren't likely to have a huge issue if you leave it. Did you have anywhere in mind? The Tourist offices are always really helpful and the majority of them speak a little English at least! Hope you have a great break here - we love it and highly recommend it for a little taster of real France real close to the UK and v child friendly... might be some ideas to help you here... www.thegoodlifefrance.com/category/french-holidays/pas-de-calais-french-holidays/ best, Janine
