Internet dongles in France

I'm about to move to France for a few months and I need to continue to have internet access for work purposes (lots of research needed around the work I do). I'm going to be staying with a lady who has internet but I don't want to overuse her allowance (she's an older lady and I'm guessing she doesn't have unlimited allowance on her internet package).

Does anybody have any experience of mobile internet in France? I have a Mac laptop, and an iPhone which I will take with me, but it's obviously on a UK network. Do you know how much dongles are in France, and whether they're actually any good? All advice gratefully received!

We tried to investigate this in France recently (albeit on hols) and no one seemed to have heard of a dongle! Hopefully someone who lives in France might be able to give you better advice.

We did this last year. We went to an Orange shop in a a shopping centre. You need to ask for "un clef" (ie a key). It cost about Euros50 and this includes some prepaid time. You have to register in the shop and have proof of ID (really they want a passport or an identity card). Leave lots of time this is bureaucracy French style.
