Flying with a 4 Month old

We're taking our little 4 month old for a 'show and tell' trip to South Africa. The flight is just over 11hrs....and she's not a happy traveller in the car, so I was wondering if anyone had some tips for us!!!????
Friends have suggested using Piriton to make her a bit dopey, but I'm not too sure.

God no, I wouldn't drug her Shock

My DS slept for a lot of his flight (I think the noise/vibration is pretty soporific) but you just have to deal with them. Feed her on take off/landing (and in the descent) to minimise ear pain.

But I wouldn't take a baby that young on a really long flight unless I absolutely had to tbh - can't those people who are desperate to see her come and visit you?

Sadly the people we're going to see are her Great-grandparents and they are all in their 80's. (as well as the obligatory extended family!) This is going to be a one-off trip as maternity pay won't cover another big journey!! Believe me, I would fly everyone else over if I could!

Don't worry flying with a four month old is a doddle. I did it on my own to NZ with Ds1 at 4 months (he slept all of the way bar couple of hours). Make sure you book bassinet seat in advance if you can (depends on airline).

I've given my kids calpol but nothing else and never had any problems on many long haul flights.

I've flew with my DD (by myself) to NZ at 4 months and again at 12. Much much easier at 4! The noise in the plane def helped calm her, and there were a few flight attendants who wanted a cuddle when I had to go to the loo. My friend took her baby to SA and since it was a night flight she said he slept all the way. Def phone the airline and book a bassinet seat, they are great! Good luck!
