Where to go in the UK for New Year?

Just looking at options and everywhere seems very expensive (obviously!). We'd like a nice family friendly hotel in the Lakes or something, or a cottage for a couple of nights. I just wondered of anyone had any ideas? ??

Anyone? I'm now looking at cottage availability but there doesn't seem to be much!

I find that hotels at New Year are very pricey as they all seem to put on entertainment and dinner dance type things and then sell all this as a package.
For that reason we tend to avoid hotels and opt for a cottage but also find that the minimum time you can rent for over this period is 5 days - which again pushes up the cost.
The only thing is to wait until much nearer the time to see if you can rent for a shorter period.
Either that or go for a budget-type hotel where you'll just get a clean bed and maybe breakfast if you're lucky then look around for a nice restaurant in your area of choice, and book a table now so that at least you'll get some food on New Years Eve/Day.

The Netherwood Hotel is fabulous at Ny - we went 7 years ago prior to DS being born though but there were children there and the gala dinner was fabulous!
