Lanzarote v Majorca v Cyprus!!!

Ok, I give in! I can't stand this weather any more! We didn't get a summer holiday this year and only managed a week in Majorca last year in October. We are looking at going in the middle of October again.

I need some heat! I've had a look online and have found three holidays that we can afford but I'm not sure which one would be best. I've looked at the weather charts and all seem to predict "much of a much ness" with Cyprus supposedly slightly warmer.

Which one would you recommend? I really need one where the kids can use the swimming pools as I can't seem to afford anywhere with outdoor heated pools and they don't like swimming in the sea.

Thanks in advance.

Do you mean indoor swimming pools?

I have been to Mallorca and Cyprus and enjoyed them both, but then I like the sea to wallow about in! Can take or leave pools if there is sea. Haven't been to Lanzarote though, so can't comment on that. Cyprus is warm in the daytime for tops and shorts, but cool enough to need a jacket in the evening; same I expect in Lanzarote. Haven't been to Mallorca that late in the year.

I guess it depends what sort of resorts/holiday villages etc you are interested in, if you could name them someone is bound to have knowledge to help you.

Thanks Girly,

It's the outdoor pools that I'm interested in. I need to know if the outdoor pools, especially in Cyprus, are warm enough to swim in.

I know that last year in Majorca the pools were cold, it took a while to get and used to it and it wasn't exactly comfortable. Ds1 wore a shorty wetsuit and lasted longer than ds2 who wouldn't put his on.

I'm not too worried about night time temps as we tend to go to bed early with the boys.

Thanks.

Hi! I live in Cyprus and we maintain pools in the Larnaca Ayia Napa and Protaras areas. For the past few years people have still been swimming in their pools until mid November with the water temp being mid 20's plus. I've also lived in the canaries and swam outside all year round though but think the beaches are nicer here than in Lanzarote but only by a little bit!

Thanks Mrsnec, I think we have decided on Cyprus.

Do you have any inside info on the Capital Coast Resort and Spa in Paphos please?

I really want the boys to be able to swim outside in the pools. It's going to be a long, hard winter and I don't think we'll get away next summer either.

Thanks in advance.

Playa Blanca is nice. We've been a couple times and like it but I really, really want to feel the sun on my skin and Lanzarote is a bit too breezy for me this time.

Hi. Paphos is about 3 hours away from me. I don't know it very well only been a few times and only ever stayed at Coral Bay and I didn't like our hotel (Corallia). And even then I prefer this side of the island but it's personal choice. Paphos is all year round. Very family friendly and loads to do and I know the Paphos flights are cheaper than the Larnaca ones at the moment. You do get what you pay for though. My parents like the Alexander The Great in paphos but not sure if it's a family hotel. If you do look at this side I think it's a bit pricey but the Capo Bay is my favourite I use the spa and restaurants there all the time. I also like the Grecian Bay, & Park and the Olympic lagoon and the Pavlo Napa which I think is cheapest out of that lot. But I too like Playa Blanca so think if I was you it would come down to price. I like to do flights and accomodation as cheap as poss so I have more spends in resort. Wise not to do Majorca if the swimming is the main thing.

Cyprus in October would be my choice. Temperatures not too different in Lanzarote but it's very windy and the pools are likely to be colder. We were there in April and the water was perishing.
I've had a chilly week of rain in Majorca in October so never again.
