Anyone been anywhere good round there that would be OK in the rain? This is so typical!

Depending on where you are in Brittany how about the Bayeux Tapestry?

Family crepe eating competition?

Get blind drunk on cider?

you are not normally very far from an aquarium. Indoor swimming pools? Or just take lots of waterproofs

Liking the cider option Grin

It's Benodet. Any more thoughts?

Thanks Smile

Lots of swimming.....

The standing stones are well worth seeing. Carnac is near a lot (1.5 hours away). They would look moody and magnificent in the rain.

The weather may not be that bad. Before we went it was forecast rain but was in the 90's. It will still be warm

IHeartKingThistle · 22/08/2012 20:57

Ooh that's encouraging! Fingers crossed!

Quimper, Vannes, Concarneau, Pont Aven and Auray are all lovely towns to visit. The submarine base at Lorient is worth a visit too.

We were there in July and had been expecting rain, but it was fantastically hot so I'll keep my fingers crossed for you Smile.

Oceanopolis in Brest is good. Also agree Kimper is lovely. We went a few weeks ago and were predicted rain on all but one day. Yes, it did rain, but surly Bly for part of the day and we still managed to go to the pool or the beach every day bar one.
Good luck. Hope you have a lively time. I am vair jealous as I'm now back at work and it all seems a dim and distant memory. Grin

coffeeandwine · 24/08/2012 13:58

Hope it is lively, but also lively! Grin

coffeeandwine · 24/08/2012 13:59

Ffs! Fat fingers.
LOVELY.

coffeeandwine · 24/08/2012 14:00

Also can't spell Quimper apparently! ( pronounced Cam- pair rather than Kimper as I did) BlushGrin

Ooh, we were in Benodet yesterday! It's lovely.

First, there's a 'train' (really a series of motorised carriages) that does a guided tour (In French and English) of the town. Kids love it.

Drive over to Concarneau or if you are feeling brave, there's a little ferry from Benodet to Concarneau. Might be v choppy in poor weather though. Concarneau has an old walled town, complete with ramparts and a little museum. Plus loads of crêperies and ice cream places and little touristy places, like a traditional clog shop, that the kids will love. My two spend 15 minutes admiring the lifelike stuffed cats and rabbits in the gift shop every time. There's the best kouig aman shop there, too. Unmissable.

Drive over to Quimper. Beautiful ancient city with impressive cathedral and town square. Lots of upmarket shops, expensive clothes, shoes, bags, leathergoods and a great covered Market with lots of high end traiteur stalls. Always good for a wander. There's a nice traditional carousel in the cathedral square which little ones love.

The Aquarium in Brest is world class but an hour's drive so plan it accordingly.

The Market is on Monday in Benodet, always good for a delicious rotisserie chicken and a wander.

We are 10 miles away in Fouesnant. We have guests coming next week and I am really disappointed that after a summer of consistent good weather, next week is going to be endless rain :(

Oh thanks for the replies! Good to know there's lots to do even if wet. I am still excited but a bit sad about the weather. Still, hey ho, we'll be on holiday!

Smile
