Can we take our pet gecko to France (not a joke!)

Don't laugh....we are struggling to find someone to look after DS's gecko so, as we're driving to France, I thought we could take him with us. I can find reference to cats/dogs and ferrets going abroad but not geckos. Can we do this? He's in a fairly small glass tank and we're going one way on ferry and back on eurotunnel.

I think you will find the answer is no even if you also were to seek advice from the vet.

Is there really no-one locally who can look after his gecko?.

Weeellll......

When we moved back to the UK we brought 2 gerbils - I had already checked that they werent on a banned list but when we go the the Tunnel you could hear utter French bewilderment over the intercom as they tried to work out what a gerbil was and whether it was a hazard. Conclusion was it was fine.

Our local pet shop does a pet sitting service and look after DD2s rats (gerbils now buried under the patio). Is that not an option for you?

Don't really want to dig up the patio, to be quite honest Wink!!

Thanks all. We found a neighbour who was happy to look after him. Usually we have DS's friends begging to have him as he's so unusual, but this year everyone was away at the same time.

Apparently I would have needed to declare him both ways and have supporting vets certification to show he isn't carrying any diseases etc. Thanks again.
