We always stay in Scala. Small enough to get around on foot, some shingly areas of beach, but you can walk along to more sandy areas. There is a good selection of accommodation types, and good restaurants. I haven't taken DC there myself, but there are usually lots of babies and small DC at the times we usually go. It isn't a place full of loud bars and clubs and club 18-30 drunks!

Are you aware that it might be a bit cool at the time you want to go, and possibly rainy. Smaller resorts might already be shutting up for the winter, which means lots of places will be reduced to a few shops and restaurants and the hotels and apartments use this time for refurbishment; also lots of staff go away to work somewhere else during the winter. The Thomson brochure I've just looked at states mid October as the end of the low season.

If you want it to be warm for a beach holiday you might be best going to Cyprus in October, or go to Kefalonia next June.

We visited Kefalonia in June this year for a wedding. It was lovely. As the holiday was arranged for us we stayed in Katelios which was a low key resort with about 10 or so tavernas, much nicer than Skala which we didn't really like.

We hired a car for the time we were there which I would highly recommend. We found the best beach within driving distance of Katelios to be Makris Yialos near Lassi. If we were to go back though we would definitely stay in Fiscardo which was by a distance the nicest town on the island, amazing restaurants and stunning scenery all around. Lots of lovely covey beaches close by as well.

We travelled with our 1 year old. HTH.

Hi - there aren't many sandy beaches in Kefalonia - I think they are only in one resort (but can't remember which one - sorry!)

have been to Fiscardo - beautiful - there are indeed covey beaches there but they are not sandy they are all stoney - may not be great for baby/toddler.

If you really must have a sandy beach you may be best to consider other islands as well as Kefalonia

have a wonderful time wherever you go

Anyone looking for a great read while in Kefalonia, there's a new novel set on the island called The Magic in the Receiver. Like Captain Corelli's Mandolin, the descriptions of the island are amazing.
