Benameldena near Malaga is great as there is a zoo, cable cars, a plae called Tivoli which is fab for toddlers and a beach.

Easyjet flight to Malaga, cheapy accomodation and you are laughing.

is it swankier/quieter/nicer than torremolinos

personally i think it is a nicer place to stay than torremolinos and yes it is very manageable without a car
it has a lovely harbour area and some nice restaurants and lots of nice beaches
it would be somewhere i would go back to this summer with a ds age 2 and a dd age 5 who has cp and walking difficulties,,
