Make sure you have plenty of snacks, put together a bag of small playthings they haven't seen before and bring something out every 20 minutes or so, provide plenty of opportunities for toddler to walk around at their own pace an (lack of) direction to minimise tantrums... Shopping and lazing about are not fun activities for a toddler! Erm try and go with the flow a bit; a late night or missed nap here or there won't do too much harm and have fun!

The first 2 suggestions were for the journey not the entire holiday!

DD found the security card with the evacuation details the most interesting thing on every flight so far. Naps were a hit and miss, sometimes she slept when I didn't expected it, other times (early/late flight) she would just bounce up and down.

We normally take her for a piece of cake and a milk before getting on the plane. This stops the hunger pains. I also have biscuits, grapes and other small items with me. We normally rely on books or a magazine for entertainment. Small paper pad and crayons are good as well. Please do not take any toys which makes noises, your fellow passengers will be grateful.

When you are there: try to stay relaxed. If a routine goes out of the window for two weeks or your child eats items you would normally not offer, that can be rectified when you're back.

Change your child the last time just before boarding, the plane toilets are useless. We had a four hour delay once, I was glad that I had double the nappies I normally use for a day out.

And: have fun.
