We are going to Alcudia in May and will be taking our then 11 month old D. Can I buy english nappies out there? and does anyone have any advice as to what else I should pack??

Tha site is pretty useful.

Think havingalaugh means Alcudia in Mallorca. Am I right?.

Your child will need their own passport.

Think you can get English nappies out there but why not take a packet so you don't have to spend the first few days hunting around supermarkets for some.

Same with formula milk and his/her favourite jar foodstuffs (no meat, cheese or dairy can be taken in though) if applicable.

Sunhat
Light collapseable buggy and umbrella shade (tie something inexpensive to it for easier identification)
Lots of suncream
wipes

Are you staying in a hotel or self catering?

Who are you flying there with?

singing29mum · 09/03/2006 17:51

going back to the nappies I was going to take some but obviously did not want to have to take a weeks worth as they will take up alot of suitcase space! :)

singing29mum · 09/03/2006 17:55

We are going with First Choice self catering the Playa Garden Apts Near Alcudia

TearsBeforeBedtime · 09/03/2006 17:58

I would be more concerned about taking the formula and jars along than the nappies, if you need to prioritise luggage space.

SenoraPostrophe · 09/03/2006 18:02

yep - nappies no prob in spain (although they only sell them in enourmous packs for some reason). food very different though.

LIZS · 09/03/2006 18:20

Pampers definitely, Huggies I think so, iirc. We stayed near there last October, although I don't recall it specifically. It was a good area for families, relatively quiet and nice long expanse of sandy beach. Near our hotel there were several convenience stores, chemist, beach toy type shops etc. Are you hiring a car ?

singing29mum · 09/03/2006 18:55

Wasn't planning on hiring a car. would you recommend it? and if so should we arrange before we go and then do we need to take our car seat

LIZS · 09/03/2006 19:15

We hired one at Palma airport with Avis and the car seat was a bit old fashioned but fine. Most of the hire companies have branches around the island and it is only an hour or so to the airport even if they need to drop it off so you could probably do it while you are there for a day or more . It might be worth getting a couple of quotes in advance and seeing if booking one via the rep is cheaper. There are busses but we didn't use them as we'd booked it all independently and hired a car anyway. It meant we could see the north east corner fo the island more freely but I was ill so we didn't use it as much as planned.

swedishmum · 09/03/2006 23:57

We've often found it better to hire cars for the odd day only if you're going to sightsee - have spent money on cars that just sit outside a hotel while we swim in the pool! Check if you'll really use one first.

Kelly1978 · 10/03/2006 10:16

If you aren't going take a full weeks worth of nappies jsut take a days worth - the packs are huuge! We ran out about halfway through and had to buy a huge pack and ended up bringing load back. The food is okay, tho it is diff. If you don't have a fussy baby you will be fine. Most of it is nestle stuff. I got huggies in spain but not pampers. Mallorca is prob the same. Formula is also limited. We couldn't get sma out there. I think they had cow and gate and some other brands.

Kelly1978 · 10/03/2006 10:17

Oh and we found a car essential, we used ours every day. There is only so much sitting on the beach you can do with a baby who wants entertaining! not sure about mallorca tho.

Kelly1978 · 10/03/2006 10:17

sorry it should be pampers not huggies!
