I went to Paris 7 years ago and I can't remember where we stayed. I would have a look on Trip Advisor as the hotels are ranked on there and people leave comments about the hotels and how easy they are to get to places.

Personally I wouldn't necessarily stay in the centre of the city as it's probably cheaper to be further out and their underground is laid out exactly the same as London and so everywhere is easy to get to.

I went with my son (13) at Easter and we stayed here:

It was 5 minutes walk from the Metro and just a few stops from the centre. It had a swimming pool, sauna, decent sized rooms, free wi-fi, a bar and small restaurant. Excellent buffet breakfast too (included in the price).

And a nice Italian restaurant next door where we ate one night.

About 5 years ago - so may be out of date, was working in Paris and rather than stay in typical business hotels (Marriott, Hilton, etc.) we stayed at this one:
www.hotel-st-thomas-daquin.com
There are 3 on same street and are part of the same group, the other 2 were
hotelsaintvincentparis.com/
www.hotelparislenoxsaintgermain.com/
Lovely central part of town, and concierge was helpful and would point us at 'locals' restaurants rather than the usual overpriced tourist ones on the main streets.
Will depend on your budget and preferences, probably also worth a check what current reviews on trip advisor are, but these would be my first port of call if I was going back to Paris...

We went on a Segway tour when we were there, OP. Quite pricey but a great and different way to see Paris. How old are your children?

That'd be cool - dd1 is 13 and would be well up for that ! The other one is one so a leetle young..... Grin

We also did the Seine boat trip, Eiffel tour, Amelie's cafe, Arc de Triomphe, Sacre Couer and lots of walking!
