DD,my best friend and DD's Godmother and me were all SUPPOSED to be off to Disney for the weekend.Anyway, big cock up by someone means we can't go.
So disappointed I have done something very rash....bashed the credit card and booked a weekend at Ickworth.
Really lookng forward to it,despite the credit card nightmare.

Anyone been? Any tips?

I also want a full report when you get back. I'm hoping to book it for April/May.

Hope you have a great time.

is it ickworth in suffolk purleeeese answer!

dangirl · 08/03/2006 19:57

Have been a couple of times and it is lovely thereSmile Do enjoy yourselves!

Can recommend the spa treatments which are very good and not at an outragous price. Do book before you go though.
The pool is lovely and warm.

The ladies in the creche seem very nice and competent and all the kids I saw left there seemed to enjoy themselves. We didn't leave DD there but spend plenty of time in the room playing which is absolutely fine.

If the weather is nice then go cycling on the estate.
There is horseriding available but kids must be 5+.

Free entry to the main house which is quite interesting.

Any further questions please just askSmile

Enjoy

i live 8 miles from there.. i'm thinking about going. wasn't sure what it was like! have a wonderful time

pizza place downstairs is great, but gets very busy - not sure if you can book. dinner is great and baby listening service very good - phone line is kept open and they will come and get you as soon as they hear anything. pool a little way from the house and in general there are lots of outdoor things to do so take cold/wet weather gear.

Thirtysix · 08/03/2006 20:34

Thanks LucysMum/Dangirl.

Hotel is nearly fully booked-in fact when I tried to book spa treatments today for the three of us,was told only one hour and one half hour timeslot available between Fri and Sun lunch-boy that's busy!
Great tip on pizza place.

I know they provide lunch and dinner to the little ones-what about breakfast?
DD is only 10mts and loves her readybrek or scrambled egg at 8am...

they have breakfast with you and there will always be children worse behaved than yours ! buffet style if i remember, scramble eggs should certainly be available, may want to take a couple of sachets of R Brek and they will give you hot milk. one tip - if you need milk during the night get them to give it to you before you go to bed and keep it in the fridge and fill up bottles at breakfast again (though suppose your DD might not be on cow's milk yet). They will supply sterilisers, kettles etc for room if you want to make up bottles and wash bottles for you. they are not called Luxury Family Hotels for nothing - and they ought to wash bottles at that price ! may also be worth enquiring whether you can have proper cot rather than travel cot - seem to remember they had both and my DDs alwasy sleep better in real cot.

How was your weekend, Thirtysix???

Thirtysix · 18/03/2006 14:50

We had a great time really but it was VERY expensive.Ikinew that before we went but I think theproblem I have in refusing anotehr bottle of wine may have had something to do with our final bill.....
We had a very large room right at the top of the stairs so ver convenient and it overlooked the Italian garden.A large room and large bathroom are so essential with a crawling toddler.
Adult food was fantastic, food for 10mt old,2 courses was £7!!!
Indoor pool is great with loads of floats etc but only 2 changing rooms-and not well heated.
Staff were lovely, other guests not particularly friendly but we weren't there to "make friends" so it didn'tmatter.
Baby listenig was great, flick a switch, tell reception where you will be and if tiddler squeaks they come and get you.
The creche was fantastic although DD was only in for less than an hour a day (working Mum wanted to spend time with her Smile. The nannies were lovely, great selection of toys andhad I not wanted to spend more time with DD would have had no hesitation in leaving her in for a couple of hours.
Breakfasts were great and grabbing a bike and trailer afterwards was fun.
The pizzeria place in the basement with the creche I found a bit dark and gloomy and my risotto was poor but both other "eateries" were great.
Interestingly,Ickworth is in "Mr and Mrs Smith" book -posh places for romantic weekends......boy would I have been peed off if I had that in mind and was unaware of the child friendly aspect. It's not just child friendly....it is a hotel for children.

All in all a great,if expensive weekend.
