Easyjet - OK to carry a tennis racquet as hand luggage?

We've booked flights and plan to take hand luggage only. Anyone know if DH can take his tennis racquet on with him to put in the overhead locker? It's length is longer than the hand luggage allowance, so I guess not. But resent paying another £30 just to get it abroad (or £25 for the racquet only). I wil carry my handbag and I guess that will be OK. Any tips or inside knowledge?!

I'd try calling the airline - some are more relaxed about that sort of stuff than others - or if you've time, try emailing them so if they say yes you have something in writing to take with you.
