Anything with deet in but heard lots of things about avons skin so soft. I've got netting order from eBay to stick around the window.

Fluffy1234 · 26/07/2012 20:44

If you have an iPod download the mosquito repellant app. It really worked for us when we stayed in a lodge in a rainforest in Argentina.

BetterOnACamel · 26/07/2012 20:45

Citronella oil was a cheap but effective little lifesaver in Sri Lanka.

TequilaMockinBird · 26/07/2012 20:46

I take yeast tablets for a couple of weeks before I travel, and whilst I'm there.

I've never been bitten since doing this whereas before they'd eat me to bits!

SkinnyVanillaLatte · 26/07/2012 20:48

I'm currently trying Skin so softly by Avon, which many seem to think is very effective. I'm quite impressed so far,but wouldn't like to use it on face as very perfumed.

SkinnyVanillaLatte · 26/07/2012 20:50

Oh,and that's in conjunction with a bloody great big fly swat.

Now that is VERY effective Grin

Conflugenglugen · 26/07/2012 20:52

citronella has always worked well. and a long-sleeved white shirt. mozzies tend to go for darker colours.

FriskyMare · 26/07/2012 20:55

Tequila where do you get yeast tablets from?

FlumpsRule · 26/07/2012 20:55

Eat marmite. Love it or hate it.. Mosquitos hate it Wink

TequilaMockinBird · 26/07/2012 21:21

FriskyMare I bought mine from Holland & Barratt. There's a vitamin which works just as well as yeast but I can't remember which one. I'll have a look when I get out of the bath Blush and let you know.

TequilaMockinBird · 26/07/2012 21:23

Forgot I could google from phone, dur!

It's vitamin B1, also available from Holland & Barratt.

treadonthecracks · 26/07/2012 21:24

Is it any particular type of Avon skin so soft?

Have ordered Citronella oil and brewers yeast tablets.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 26/07/2012 21:32

Great thread op!

Can children take yeast and / or vitamin b1 tablets?

Ds1 and I always get bitten to shreds and react badly, ds2 and DH are fine!

SkinnyVanillaLatte · 26/07/2012 21:33

The blue skin so soft - soft and fresh.

treadonthecracks · 26/07/2012 22:00

SVL - thank you. I have found it in the avon book so going to put my order in.

SkinnyVanillaLatte · 26/07/2012 22:07

Got to be worth a try treadonthecracks and it smells lovely anyway Smile.

FriskyMare · 27/07/2012 07:51

Tequila thank you! :)
I got some skin so soft from Amazon. SIL swore by it when they lived in Florida but it didn't seem to help me much.

stealthsquiggle · 27/07/2012 07:55

Has anyone tried the wrist/ankle bands you can get? After we all got bitten badly in Mexico last year (and DH came home with Dengue Fever) I am willing to invest in / try most things...

Yeast/B1 you say? Hmmm. Can't do any harm (unlike the Avon stuff which does my skin no good whatsoever)

massistar · 30/07/2012 14:23

Jungle Formula - 50% Deet! I have tried everything else under the sun but it is the only thing that is effective in the mosquito ridden swamplands of Northern Italy in August!

The bands worked for my little ones but I think it's because I act as a human mosquito repellent and no one else gets a look-in if I'm around ;-)

stealthsquiggle · 30/07/2012 14:27

massistar - I have that (and 100% DEET) in my armoury, along with the bands, and some highly recommended stuff called Mosquito Milk and everything else I could find.

GnomeDePlume · 30/07/2012 18:21

Lifesystems Expedition is 100% DEET and available from Amazon. It is powerful stuff!

newpup · 30/07/2012 19:02

Just returned from Sri Lanka and used jungle formula tropical 50 per cent deet. Not bitten once although I have been eaten alive since returning to the UK!
