Any recommendations please? Sorrento and Positano or Sorrento and Amalfi or Sorrento and Maoiri. What U.K. Tour operators do this area? I am not in U.K. but could fly from there. Any suggestions gratefully received.

Thomson does package holidays to the Amalfi Coast.

If you stay in Sorrento you can easily go on the tourist sightseeing bus to Positano. You can also go on the train to Pompeii and Herculaneum if you fancy that. Sorrento is a bit flatter as it is at the top of a cliff and easier to walk around, Positano is built all the way down a cliff to the sea, a lot of steps and inclines but fab shops including designer.

There are some 5* hotels in Sorrento, if you fancy a bit of luxury, and most of the larger hotels have pools whatever their star rating.

Thank you. How far is Positano from Sorrento?

Oh this is my specialist subject :o

Do you need a tour operator? The road is hairy but driveable - car hire from Naples airport etc.

I prefer the Amalfi/Maori area to Sorrento - why the Sorrento specification?

Positano - lovely for a day trip but I wouldn't want to stay there - incredibly crowded in the summer. Amalfi is smaller and a bit quieter - and you can boat from Amalfi to various places.

We stayed in Sorrento and took a boat trip to Amalfi. It's also very easy to take the boat over to Capri which is stunning.
