We went here today to the British Wildlife Centre and it was a nice afternoon where the animals were in big clean cages with plently of room to run around in natural sort of surroundings and I didnt leave feeling soory for them being all cooped up like I usually do...hence my recommendation here :)
Heres the address, cant get it to link..

Looks great ! Had never heard of it before even though we are fairly local.

We just drove past it then hit a round about and decided to go back to it :) We actually headed out the door for Ashdown Forest...I dread to think how off course we wereGrin

We went there a couple of years ago and had a very enjoyable afternoon. I agree the animals are well-kept and have plenty of space but it is still easy to get around with small children. We liked seeing the badgers asleep in their sett and the foxes' feeding time.

Charliecat, we went there by accident too! We had decided to go to Gatwick zoo as I'd been there years before and when I saw it clearly marked in our brand-new Readers' digest road map I thought it would be just right for the kids. After a very lengthy drive we discovered it had been closed about 3 years before! That rotten book cost £25 and we only bought it because dh forgot to send it back and they were sending us threatening letters Angry. Anyway, we flicked frantically through '1001 things to do with children' and found the wildlife centre, which was great.

I pass the centre every day taking dd1 to school and it is one of our favourite haunts to. Very simple, non commercial not glamourous but still fab.... apart from the rats in the tubes which turns my stomach every time!!! the smell!!!!!!

charliecat · 06/03/2006 11:24

Mrs Spink...we came back from there inspired by those rats in tubes and now have my 2 rats running round the kitchen from thier cage up a ramp and over the top of the kitchen cupboardsShock Dont think you would fancy a coffee at my house thenGrin
