Ferry deals

We are looking at our first holiday abroad next August with our 3DCs, the villa we are looking at will require a ferry to either Cherbourg or St Malo - is there any way of getting deals on the crossings or it just a matter of accepting the price stated is it??!

I've heard some of the newspapers do tokens but not sure if these can be used in the summer?

Thanks,

Subscribe to the DFDS offers - can be as little as £60 return.

Ah - I was going to say you were leaving it late - but you are going NEXT August?

I don't know if you can book so far in advance?

What I will say though is if you can avoid Saturday travel the prices will be less.

We are going to France in a couple of weeks and prefer to use the eurotunnel. The prices on that don't vary much though. My parents are joining us later on and are taking the Portsmouth to Le Havre overnight ferry. They are travelling on a Sunday night - returning the following Monday. This means that prices are considerably less, and that there was availability. Despite them booking in March for July - there wasn't much left for weekend travel for cabins.

We tend to avoid Saturdays anyway due to the roads being busier. We are going early Friday morning, and overnighting to break up the journey and avoid having to drive 8 hours on a Saturday.
