Am trying to put together an itinerary and hoping not to have the nightmare I had last year where I am stuck in the middle of husband wanting to do what he wants and kids being bored with it. So looking to set something up that will keep them all happy and in turn I can be happy. I have a few ideas already but wondered if you could add to them if you have visited any of the above and would recommend a visit to a certain place. We will be in each city for around three days although Salzburg will be for 7 days.

if the teens like fast rides, go to the Prater in Vienna :)

Salt mine tours and Sound of Music tours in Salzburg are good. Train up to the mountains to have a ride in a cable car also a good idea in that part of the world.

Munich has lots of beer (misspent youth in HofbrauHaus) and a legal beer drinking age of 16, so maybe a trip to a beer garden? There are many lovely family friendly ones and a nice intro to a totally different drinking culture. Munich also has a couple of Palaces which are worth a visit, and Dachau is a educational trip for all. Outside Munich the lakes are lovely for swimming and there are little paddler streamers on the Starnberger See which can take you to pretty villages. Andechs is a lovely trip (and more nice beer and giant doughnuts!)

7 days is a lot in Salzburg itself, if you mean Salzburg Province then that's fine.........are you Buda?

Prague - the observation tower at the top of the hill is good and you can get a little funicular (sp?) train up to it. The cafe there does lovely coffee and honey cake. The Kafka museum is good. My favourite thing though, was the church with a wax Jesus who has a whole wardrobe of clothes.

I interrailed with my 2 teens (just 3 of us) last summer and it was fantastic - did Paris, Munich, Budapest, Bucharest, Thessaloniki and a week on a greek island - the best memories.

Anyway, to the point, there's a lovely old building in Budapest (the Gellert Hotel and Baths) which houses a swimming pool and turkish baths - all marble pillars etc - highly recommended and also a very good restaurant on a boat moored on the river in Budapest, cant remember the name but its next to a bridge and all lit up with fairy lights - very good food. Also do a boat trip along the Danube at night - wonderful floodlit historic buildings - very romantic.

Lucky you.
