Lyon / Macon - any lovely ways to spend few hours?

Thinking of spending a few hours in this region on way home. Can anyone suggest some nice things for kids as a break from driving?

Around lunchtime on Friday would lyon be hellish to drive into? Was thinking about the parc / zoo? Or i have visions of picnic-ing in the grounds of a gorgeous chateaux...

Or even just a great place to stop for an extended lunch?

Any top tips??

Someone suggested we stop at the palais ideal du facteur cheval but it's south of Lyon so may not suit you. We haven't been there yet.
