SAME DAY PASSPORTS FOR BABIES

Does anyone know if you can get a passport the same day for a baby? The passport office has told us that, for a first passport you can't, only for a renewing passport. Is that right??

Actually yes, that does sound familiar from when I was reading up on it for ds' passport. Check out the passport agency's website, I am sure all will be revealed there ...

bundle · 02/03/2006 18:16

definitely NOT, as I know to my cost/tears...

schneebly · 02/03/2006 18:16

pretty sure you cant get it for a first one, sorry.

Blu · 02/03/2006 18:17

What happened to you, Bundle?

2Happy · 02/03/2006 18:18

Oh crap. That's that small glimmer of hope dsahed then!

made double appt over phone - for my renewal, dd2's first passport at petit france...pitched up with chequebook & all right documents and was told NO SAME DAY PASSPORTS FOR FIRST TIMERS
(ferry booking at end of week for entire family looming... Sad - this was 3 summers ago)

I cried

I stamped my feet

I cried again

I was so hysterical (not like me at all Wink) they had to find a side room and water for me.. I could barely speak when i rang dh to tell him.

They did mine the same day (for £90) and dd2's was ready within about 24 hrs...they actually rang me on my mobile to tell me and i almost collapsed with joy Smile

one of the worst episodes of my life, honestly

bundle · 02/03/2006 18:21

(they had told me over the phone that it was up to the discretion of the passport officer involved but this was A Lie)

It's suddenly occurred to me that this fact was not shared with the MNer hoping to go to Spain 3 weeks after the arrival of her first baby. I will henceforth go and find this thread.

Bundle, what a nightmare.

thanks tribpot, i really wouldn't want anyone to have to go through what I went through. I'm sure it's shortened my life...

2Happy · 02/03/2006 18:30

Trib, I was looking at that thread a few minutes ago, can easily get it back up on my screen...

2Happy, I know Grin (75 wpm when last tested). Imagine the horror for people whose documents I am reviewing at work. No need to shorten my comments based on it taking too long to type them up, no siree.

Do you need to get a same day one for your little one though?

2Happy · 02/03/2006 18:37

Yeah, sadly. I boobed (or indeed norked since it's MN!!) - we had a holiday sorted with a couple of friends before getting ds's passport through, but there's been a postal strike in Belfast and now ds's birth certificate is missing and we were supposed to be going on saturday. Sad It's my fault for going ahead with a holiday before getting ds's passport in my hands, and I think I've kind of p*d off the couple we were going with for not being more organised. It's all a bit crap really.

Glad you're not reviewing my documents! Maybe I should spell check more before posting on the June thread Grin
