Never assume!!

Abbotsbury is a great day out, the Swannery, the play farm and the botanic gardens. Not sure about anything else as we are fairly east of there.

Brilliant thank you!, we are going early August, not sure if this makes a difference to anything?!

We are due a good August, last year was dull but you could get out everyday.

Another vote for Abbotsbury. The gardens were astounding. The swannery is worth a visit as well.

Also:
Seaton tramway
Beer caves
Bridport - it has a little museum that is worth a visit, and the market on Saturdays is lovely.
If you don't mind the drive, Longleat is worth a visit. We went there last month in the rain (from Chideock) and it was brilliant. The rain kept the worst of the crowds away but didn't detract from a great day out.
There are also a few National Trust properties in West Dorset/Somerset/Devon that are worth a visit as well.
