Bali anyone?

I've decided to go to Bali in about a month - still got to organise everything - just book a flight and go for 3 weeks.

Anyone been and has some great tips? Places to stay, where to go, what to avoid....

Will probably go to the Gilli islands, same info would be appreciated.

All the practicalities I know, will go to the Tropical Health buro next week (most are update already and never heard of any malaria there)...

Any info, suggestions etc. most appreciated. Thanks!

Make sure you have a comprehensive insurance policy and don't ride a motorbike without a helmet.

It isa real mix with lots of australians going because it is cheap and easy to get to (thin 18-30!) and also being a high value exotic holiday for others. Ubud is lovley and less touristy although you still will get asked to but the wooden stuff. Choose your hotle wisely and you will have a lovely time and most hotels have mini buses going out and about - it is not typically like a gated community type place.

Ubud is wonderful, as is Sanur. Avoid Kuta though it does have a fantastic waterpark. Head to the north for peace and quiet

Kuta is horrible.

North is lovely inc Lovina where you can very cheaply go out in the early am to watch dolphins. Fantastic snorkelling there too and hot springs.

Don't drive AT ALL! It's beyond manic.

The Bukit Peninsula is fabulous and almost guaranteed good weather due to some freak of geography.

Ubud is fascinating.
