I fancy going to Finland next summer. I thought we could rent a cabin by a lake for a nice relaxing family holiday or maybe camping if they have something like eurocamp. I'd like to be able to go cycling/swimming/hiking etc. I'm having trouble finding out where would be nice. There are lots of lakes! Has anyone got any recommendations or tips about where to go or what we need to know? Finland isn't the easiest destination to find out about!

Have a look at Levi. Lots of outdoor stuff going on there. I've only been in the winter, but the ski-guide we had said that there was lots going on in the summer.

He did say that mosquitos are at full force in August. The Finns get used to it, but he said visitors have a hard time dealing with them.

Thanks, I'll take a look. Is Levi quite far north? I wonder how warm it is in summer.

Levi is up in the Arctic Circle. Early 20s in the summer - apparently. Not boiling but supposed to be very pleasant. Kittila is the nearest airport. Levitunturi hotel has a fantastic indoor water centre too! Smile
