Barcelona

We got some bargain flights to Barcelona in October Half Term, and I have questions you might be able to help with. We are going with our 8 and 3 year old.

  1. What weather can we expect that time of year?
  2. We are thinking of staying in Barceloneta, would that be a good place to stay?
  3. Any must sees with kids?
  4. Do you know any good , reasonable self catering apartment?
  5. Is it worth going to Montserrat?

Hello. I've only been on grown up weekends but it is a beautiful city. I'm told the aquarium is good.
I have been to Montserrat and I found it beautiful and fascinating but would imagine rather dull for kids...

Barcelona can be fairly warm especially when the sun comes out (which it does a lot you'd be pleased to know!) but it shouldn't be as cold as it is here and I'd bet you'd get in the sea (well the kids at least!). I went in May last year and it was cold and stormy and I have been in December and February and been out in shirt sleeves. I usually dress for a month or two ahead of us ie December there was like February here and October would be akin to September here maybe. The locals wrap up warm when it goes below 15 degrees.

Barceloneta is OK but too far along and it's a bit dull and built up. You also have to get to a huge main road to cross to get into town and then you are right at the bottom so it's a drag up. Port Vell has the IMAX and the Aquarium and sometimes some small fairground rides. There is a shopping centre too with the ubiquitous McDonalds. My DS liked the wavy paving (more than my ankles).

Personally I'd look at staying in the Barri Gotic because it's largely pedestrian, quite atmospheric and teeming with shops, bars, places to eat , and old buildings to gaze at.

Have a great time

We have been a good few times, once stayed in a beautiful apartment that we rented via rentcityapartments. They have a good selection. We stayed away from things a bit but on a good bus route and near a taxi rank, by the beach. Grin

The gothic quarter is AMAZING we love it there, such an atmosphere.
