Cambridge accommodation

A friend has arranged a last minute trip to visit and will be arriving into Stansted next Friday evening. I'd hoped to be able to find somewhere reasonably priced in Cambridge so we could stay overnight (we live a couple of hours away from the airport and don't fancy driving home) and have a wander round Cambridge in the morning.

It seems however that Cambridge is full! Laterooms etc. give no availability anyone got any suggestions of places we might try?

did you try all the travel lodges / holiday in express. There is one of them near the station in whittlesford, and you could get the train to cambridge the next day. Are yoi driving from the airport? There s

sorry pressed post too soon (stupid phone).

If you are driving, there is a holiday inn at histon and a travel lodge at orchard park, and you could easily drive or get the bus into town from both those sites.

The Travelodge next to the station has availability according to lastminute.com

The travelodge by the station is fine, and there are a number of B&Bs on Hills Road and Tennison Road (also near the station) that are similarly fine - my rather fussy relatives have stayed there. Google them for phone numbers, etc.

Your friend has picked a bad time of year to visit Cambridge, unfortunately, because it will be packed out with Mummies and Daddies of graduating students. You might have more luck finding somewhere to stay in or near Ely, which is a lovely place to visit in its own right, and only 20 minutes on the train from Cambridge.

Premier Inn? It's a little bit of a drive but very nice.

It's graduation weekend, I don't think you will have much luck.

Try university rooms (google it) some of the colleges may start uploading spare capacity.

Graduation weekend makes sense, I knew there must be something on. I've tried university rooms but they don't start being freed up until a day later in most cases. I thought I'd found a travelodge that was available, but when you go to actually try and book it the availability disappears.

Friend is visiting for another reason so might just end up giving Cambridge a miss, just thought it would be a nice detour on the way home and save me driving back.
