Campsite in italy / S. France - not a big keycamp type place

Hiya

Can anyone recommend a good campsite in southern France or Italy which would be ideal for a fly drive with a 3 yo DS in Sept? I'd rather avoid the massive parks which have loads of facilities (which we dont really need at this stage) and stay somewhere smaller.

We are after somewhere with pitched tents (ideally those posh safari type tents) yurts or chalets.

I would prefer to be near to some towns / villages etc rather than too rural but we dont need access to a beach necessarily.

A playground / shop / on site snack bar would be perfect.

ideally not more than 1.30 from an airport.

Still warm in September !!

have a look at Cool Camping France - there are several very nice looking low key sites offering luxury pre-pitched tents/yurts and the prices in Sept should be good as it's low season (assuming they are still open).
