Chicago or Boston?

We're planning a trip to the States with our two teenage boys and we could fly to either city and spend a few days there. Any recommendations as to which is the nicest city? What are the relative merits of both? This would be in July/August.

TIA.

Personally I prefer Boston a) due to the history (good for educating your boys) and b) the seafood. Also a shorter flight!

Boston is fab - loads to see & do, particularly if you're interested in American history. It also has a plethora of great bars, restaurants & shopping. The only downside potentially is the heat in July / August.

Chicago is also a nice city, but IMHO, it's not a patch on Boston! Enjoy as both are great places to visit & I'm v jealous Grin

Definitely Boston.

Boston!

I've only been to Boston so cannot compare with Chicago.

However, I can say Boston is brilliant with plenty to do.

Chicago is fab in summer. It has a big beach with 18 miles of uninterrupted bike/walking path along the lakeshore. It has tons of history and amazing architecture. Lots of tall buildings for great views of the city and beyond. Check out the local listings of both cities to see what special events (concerts) etc. are on when you plan to visit to see if that influences your decision.

Both lovely cities with lots to do but BOSTON wins hands down! Dont forget to get the ferry out to cape cod!

Thank you all - looks like Boston is coming out the winner!
