Need to get from the west midlands to Greenwich stadium forOlympics..have booked hotel in Bromley but looks like a public transport nightmare on rail. Was considering driving to London outskirts then travelling in via tube or rail to the stadium. Can anyone recommend an area/ hotel or any other way of doing this. Forgive my ignorance of our wonderful capital but geography never my strong point

Is this the venue you are referring to rather than Greenwich Park?.

This may be helpful to you:-

I don't think any official site will help you. My "helpful" 2012 advice consisted of leaving at 10.30pm Sat night to get to Excel by 8.30am Sunday.

Fine, but I only live an hour away by train. Which means there is no extra trains even though I live in the South East so have a greater propensity to attend.

I hope you get some inside info. I saw lots of disappointed people at the Jubilee because no one (police, stewards, train operators) knew what was going on. People spent hours crushed on trains/bridges/queues for the loo but the hotel I was in had an open viewing area and food ,drinks and toilets available...but no one was told.

I live in Bromley! Where is your hotel?

The best idea would be a train to Lewisham and then to the DLR. You can try to drive to Blackheath, park at the station and walk over the heath to Greenwich. But obviously there is no guarantee that you can park and it is at least £1/hr.
