Child/baby Carseats in taxis?

Hi,
DH has a lot of annual leave to use up before sept so we're looking at a few holiday options. One idea is a weekend visiting family in Istanbul but I'm slightly put off by the logistics of transporting DS (who is 1yo) in taxis. Research suggests that babies just go on an adults knee but I'm not happy with that so tryi g to work out a viable alternative. How gave people got around this? Any anyone have specific experience re:Istanbul?
Thanks

can you take your car seat with you? Airlines will carry them fro free.
At 1 DD would still fit into the car seat that would then fit into our buggy frame.

I was caught out in Thailand with a 5 month old and no carseat - lots of car trips. I used my Baby Bjorn to hold DD & i sat in the back. Car seat over me, but not over baby (of course). It wasn't perfect but it was better than having her loose in the car.
