Hi all, looking for advise and help re my hotel choice in Portugal. We are going for 1 week at end of Sept, looking for 2 bed apartment, have 2 kiddies, idealy in a hotel cause a lot of private villa's I have looked at are to far out... dont want to hire a car and they have no kiddies pool..this is a must.

We stayed in Albuferia in Villa Petra Apartahotel last year and it was ideal but we dont want to go back to the same place. Was thinking of going further along coast maybe Praia De Rocha ... dont want to far of an airport transfer but Open to suggestions. Anyway my head is getting fried looking so looking for reccommendations now!!

The list! .......2 bedroomed apt a must preferable in Hotel ....kiddies pool a must not to bothered with kiddies clubs cause we have never used them but stuff for kids aged 3 and 5 would be a bonus ....central walkable to beach and restaurants etc...Thinking everywhere will be quieter in sept so dont need it to quiet location. Not asking for a lot ...Thanks

I would recommend Alvor as a resort, we have twice stayed at the Dunas do Alvor. We were last there 3 years ago so it may have changed but they were large apartments in a complex with a pool and well located for beach and restaurants.
Alvor is fabulous. Miles of beautiful beach, cobbled streets and a harbour with fish restaurants.

Thanks SecretSquirrels, just had a look and location looks/sound great. I dont know if its just me but when i read reviews (trip advisor link) even if 20 of them are great I always read the negative ones, thats 1 or 2, and they stick in my head!! Alvor looks lovely....:-)

I know what you mean about the trip adviser reviews. I end up agonising for weeks about where to go. Every time I find the perfect place that ticks all the boxes I find one bad review and go off the place. I try to say to myself to ignore the extremes at both ends and if the vast majority are good then trust them. I also try to look out for reviews from people with children of a similar age to mine and I sometimes PM them for more info. I find people are always happy to help.

It's true there are mixed reviews on this place, I recall the pool was lovely. They are just apartments so there is no entertainment food but there are cafes all around. They are one of the few places that do 2 bed apartments, although in my experience apartments in Portugal are often larger than most other places.

The place we stayed fits all your criteria except the walkable beach. We stayed in Olhao, between airport and Tavira. It's a fishing village/town with Marina. There are 3 islands off the coast which you take a short boat trip to and they have stunning white beaches. The apartments we stayed in here are brand new and linked to this hotel here. They are 5 star and gorgeous but you pay way less than elsewhere because the town doesn't have a beach. Each block of apartments has a roof top pool, shared between very few so often we were the only ones. If you go on tripasvisor nearly all 41 reviews say excellent, that's why we went. We loved it and it was really convenient for getting to other places e.g. Zoomarine, Tavira etc.
